Zakat Calculator

Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and the third pillar: an obligatory charity of 2.5% (one fortieth) of a Muslim's qualifying wealth held above the nisab for one lunar year. The nisab is set at 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver — we use the silver nisab (the lower of the two) as the yardstick, which is the common practice in the Hanafi school.

Qualifying wealth (nisab) includes cash, bank balances, gold and silver (at their market value, regardless of jewellery use), business inventory, receivable debts, and investments in stocks and other assets that have not been spent. Zakat is calculated on the total: if the total exceeds the nisab in PKR (shown above), you owe 2.5% of that total.

Gold is valued at its spot market rate per gram — we use the international XAU/USD rate converted to PKR at the interbank exchange rate. Silver is valued at the XAG/USD spot rate. These rates update as the market moves, so your Zakat amount may change slightly depending on the day you calculate.

The Zakat payable is then divided among the eight categories of eligible recipients defined in Surah At-Tawbah (9:60): the poor (fuqara), the needy (masakin), Zakat administrators, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, slaves seeking freedom, debtors, those in the path of Allah, and travellers in need.

Zakat al-Fitr (Sadaqat al-Fitr) is a separate obligation due before the Eid prayer on the last day of Ramadan — approximately PKR 200–350 per person in the household, regardless of whether the nisab is reached. It purifies the fast and ensures the poor can also celebrate Eid.
